Product Description

Ticket to Ride:  United Kingdom will include a double-sided game board.  One side will show a map of the United Kingdom, including Great Britain and Ireland, set in the 19th Century, at the dawn of the railroad revolution.  To play on this map, a completely new set of train cards are also included.  A unique feature of this scenario is the introduction of Technology cards that allow players to improve the quality and sophistication of their trains during the game, allowing faster runs and longer routes.  Players must use Locomotive cards to purchase the Technology cards, forcing them to decide between technological development or expanding their route network on the map.  This scenario supports 2 to 4 players. The other side of the game board shows a map of Pennsylvania.  Playing this scenario uses a deck of Stock Shares, representing actual historical railroads that operated in the region shown on the map.  When a player completes a route on the map, they have the opportunity to "invest" in a company through the use of the Stock Shares, with control of each company awarding bonus points at the end of the game.  This scenario supports 2 to 5 players.

A Step above the original Ticket to Ride Game with new cards - Expansion
After spending a year in England and traveling over UK we were excited to try out the Ticket to Ride UK. This is a expansion board which means you need one of the original Ticket to Ride boards (US or Europe). There are a few new rules to this board which include concession cards (like a visa needed to enter another country) and technology cards. These took the game to the next level. It took our family a bit to figure out the game and we watched a few videos on how to play. I see this game staying in our family game night rotation!

Arrived yesterday and entranced the family for hours, breaking the addiction to the original Ticket to Ride. The family immediately began playing the notorious robber baron, cut-throat Pennsylvania board. We soon discovered one must diversify one's stock holdings, keep an eye on what stocks are available and how many of them are issued to competitors. Be bold and obtain segments of those routes needed quickly while not giving hints of your intended destinations away too quickly. But, one must act fast and decisively if one intends to be the CEO of the greatest conglomerate holdings of the railroads that connect Pennsylvania with connecting states and Canada. Not for the non-competitive family members who might take "umbrage" if one or more of their intended routes are cut-off!

The other side of the board, the United Kingdom game is also a very interesting if not decidedly different play. We found it much slower paced as one must decide to obtain advanced technology and pay with locomotive cards, or try to complete routes without the advancement of technology. The spoiler is the route to America which can be completed with locomotives in part, but without technology and rewards a massive amount of points. This is a more cerebral game in many aspects, but still avails the player of the fun and excitement of the Ticket to Ride experience.

Note: you must have the original game!!

My brother and my sister (sil) introduced us to the original game and while I was extremely hesitant, I’m absolutely addicted and is a must play everytime we’re together so when I saw this, I HAD to get it! It’s all the right things!! You get new destination cards, 2 new boards and a fresh deck of colored. It’s the same game, with a fresh new spin/twist! It’s easy to pick up!! I will say, I think this one is a bit harder then the original, less double track options (making you go the longer routes) and longer routes in general (but worth more points)
I’m glad I decided to buy it and recommend it to anyone looking to add to their collection!!

My family loves this entire game series and I'm happy I could jump on the chance to get this for myself at a great price. Only quibble to the "good" description for the copy I got was that it was explained as "minor cosmetic damage" to the top and bottom parts of the box. The extensive taping up I had to do to secure the box was a bit beyond minor. But the box is in decent shape now, and the game contents were fine.

With this UK version, players also visit France, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland in pursuit of their train routes. This requires acquisition of visas to enter those countries (need train cards to buy them). Same thing for some of the enhanced resource cards. But my family has enjoyed this game on the times we've played. I don't think we've played the Pennsylvania side of the board yet, so I can't comment on that one.

**It is important to note that this is another expansion set to the game series. You will need a copy of the original Ticket to Ride or Europe version for the train pieces and train cards.

My. husband and I have started having game night every Wednesday night accompanied by some wine. One of the first games we bought was Ticket to Ride and fell in love with it immediately. it was easy to play, a bit competitive and didn't require so much concentration that it ruined our wine buzz.

We've since bought the 1910 Expansion Pack, Ticket to Ride Europe and the Nordic version. We thought we didn't need any more versions, but then this one sounded so interesting.

I have to point out that this review is only for the Pennsylvania map, we haven't even tried the other side yet!

The Pennsylvania side added shares of stock. When you complete a route, you can choose a share of stock to keep. You get points at the end of the game based on the number of shares of stock and how low your numbered stock is. It sounds like it might be confusing, but it's not at all.

What makes this so fun is that you really have no idea who is going to win until the stock points are added up. Some stocks are worth more points than others and you learn to go for those first.

There is no longest route bonus, so you don't have to focus on that, however there is a bonus for most completed destinations. Between that bonus and getting some good stock, you can surprisingly pull ahead at the end.

We've watched some videos on how to play the United Kingdom side and it looks like it adds in several more layers, we'll probably start it soon and I'll come back and edit this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic expansion

Love this expansion, especially (and surprisingly) the Pennsylvania variant. I bought this mainly because it features familiar local places names which I thought would be fun for the kids, and to add some additional variety to our Ticket to Ride games (we used to play Europe with the 1912 expansion) of course, but ended up really loving this version.

The UK variant, which was the primary reason for buying, is nice but feels like a quite a lot of hassle for not a lot of additional fun. The Pennsylvania version with it's railroad stocks system though is really great and has quickly become my favourite version of the game, the wife and kids love it as well. What would really make this version perfect for me is if you could play it on the Europe map with original European railroad companies, but that's for a future version perhaps :)

In any case, great expansion, absolutely worth the money, especially if you can buy it with a good discount!

Les deux plateaux sont très originaux et apportent une belle variante au jeu d'origine. Le Royaume Uni comme la Pennsylvanie se jouent avec des cartes actions ou technologie en plus des cartes de destinations ce qui complique agréablement la partie.

5.0 out of 5 stars De las mejores expansiones que hay para Ticket to Ride
Reviewed in Mexico on October 22, 2020
