    Azul bag

    Azul, the game of the year 2018, is a strategic tile game for young and old.

    The board game is quick to learn thanks to simple rules. Azul is an eye-catcher and captivates players with its beautiful art and the colourful and high-quality mosaic stones, the Azulejos.

    It is perfect for newcomers, families, tactical foxes and tilers.

    Azul playing field

    At Azul, players have to make strategic decisions, but the simple rules make the game easy to learn and offer a surprising depth every round.

    The 100 tiles are mixed in the cloth bag. After that, 4 random tiles are placed on each manufacturer plate. Once the players are on the train, they must choose a tile paint from a manufacturer plate.

    Azul player tablet

    Players must then remove all the tiles from this colour. The selected tiles place the players on the player table and fill out the empty fields.

    The laid tiles serve as preparation for the matching range in the display of the player table.

    Azul mosaic

    But be careful! If players take too many of the Azulejos and they can no longer be placed in row, then the tiles will break and fall on the floor. The broken tiles place players on top of their player tablet. These tiles cost you some points at the end of the game.

    Once a player could complete a full horizontal row on his wall, the game ends. The player with the most points wins the artistic family game.

      Be warned that the rules are in German. That’s great if you understand German but I don’t. Fortunately I know how to play the game so it didn’t matter to me. As a game it is a 5 for me but I think the rule book was a big fail on their part.

      Nice game, but I was very disappointed to find that the version I bought from the Amazon UK site had no English rules included. I had to print some that I found on the internet - not ideal, especially if one was intending to give the game as a present.
