The Card Game with Ever-Changing Rules

One of the greatest versions of the card game with ever changing rules. Easier than ever with just the four classic card types that fans the world over have come to know and love. It starts out simple: draw one card and play one card – but rule cards quickly make things chaotic.

Even the object of the game will often change as you play, as players swap out one goal card for another. Can you achieve world peace before someone changes the goal to bread and chocolate?

    How to Play

It all begins with one basic rule: Draw one card, Play one card. You start with a hand of three cards, add the card you drew to your hand, and then choose one card to play, following the directions written on your chosen card. As cards are drawn and played from the deck, the rules of the game change from how many cards are drawn, played or even how many cards you can hold at the end of your turn.

Fun game through time and space
I never had any interest in Fluxx until I found out there was a Doctor Who edition. This is a light, fun game with the theme integrated well enough. I play it solo, because I play everything solo, and have a blast every time but I'm sure it's much more fun with 2+ players, probably like any other Fluxx edition.

      Positives
      1. Flexible number of players.
      2. Games are a mixture of skill and chance which is fun.
      3. If you like Dr Who the references are amusing.
      4. As each individual game doesn't last ages it is a lot better for playing on days such as Christmas/ New Year. People can take part in a game, go do something else then join back in for the next one. It created a nice fluidity of taking part and being able to cook/ meet new guests etc.
      5. It's a little box of cards so very portable.

      Negatives
      1. It is quite a steep learning curve. I already had Fluxx 4.0 so knew how the rules/goals changed as played. The younger people (aged 14-35) picked it up faster but those over 50 found it a bit of a struggle. We stayed with it and people enjoyed it though it took a while for some folk. I would recommend teaching people to play when they are not tired!
      2. The length of games varies quite a bit. Not a problem for me but harder to judge times.
      3. Once you have played one fluxx, you have to a large extent played them all. There are slight variations but I wouldn't recommend running out to buy other versions if you already have one.
      4. You have to be able to accept that people make mistakes! I have played with people who are really strict to the rules. That isn't going to work for fluxx as the rules keep changing and keeping track of everything is a big challenge, especially for new players. The rule sticklers I have introduced this to argued before they started but dropped that after one game. This game is more about taking part than winning. If you stop each game whenever someone makes a mistake you will rarely get to the end.

Overall, I really like Fluxx. This version was bought as a gift and enjoyed.

The rules are so straight forward as you learn as you play.
The cards you play change the rules, so it's such a fun and easy game for non-gamers!

Arrived a lot faster than expected. Estimated it would take three months to deliver, yet just took under two weeks.

You really get two games when you buy this, normal FLUX and then the enhance Zombie FLUX which add new rules and new mayhem to the already chaotic and fun FluXX.

The basic game is really easy to pick up and fun to play. It has some strategy but also feels free flowing and a little random if you do not have a plan. The great thing about Fluxx is that anyone can change the game at any moment and that changes the pace, the stakes and the amount of tension. Normal games of Fluxx last for about 30 minutes on average. I've only played with a maximum of four other people and we usually play three rounds before we move onto a more serious game.

Zombie Fluxx initially feels a few factors more complicated than normal Fluxx and it totally changes the strategy so it may feel a bit daunting for new players. However once you're in the swing of things it is just as fun and sometimes more fun than the vanilla version. Games last a bit longer on average and expect the first game played to take much longer due to the learning curve.

Both versions are great party games or family time wasters. I play with a group of adults (23-32) and we all love it.

If you buy and enjoy this game then i would recommend Evil Baby Nursery too, another great card game.

I have played both Pirate Fluxx and Monty Python Fluxx before, and decided to get this version for my brother, an aficionado of sci-fi, for Christmas. We opened it on the day, it was one of the few games we played that day around family responsibilities (Star Trek Catan, Pandemic, Coup and 7 Wonders got pushed to the side).

This is without a doubt my favourite version. The games seem to have a much faster pace, and there is a lot of variety in the Keepers and Creepers. For those who haven't played Fluxx before, you play cards in turn depending on the rules played previously. At the beginning, you draw one card from the deck and play one card from your hand. But later, someone might play a 'Play All' card, which means everyone has to play everything in their hand every turn. The victory conditions fluctuate as much as the rules do, it becomes a very fun, very easy to learn game, that can take anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour.

I would strongly recommend this to any newcomers to Fluxx.

As someone new to playing card games I thought I'd give this a try as it seemed fairly straightforward and fun. It doesn't disappoint. Games can last anything from 10 - 15 minutes to half an hour or more depending on what rule changes you decide to play. Although, I will admit there are some cards that seem to have fairly ambiguous wording that left us to make decisions on how they should be played ourselves, but it didn't take away from the fun. While I can see how this would be far more entertaining with a few more players, it works great with just the two of us and I can see it being the kind of thing that would pop into a travel bag (for when we can do things like that again) to play on the go. However, it does benefit from a decent amount of table space.

This is a great game. It can get a little intense the more people that are involved, but that only makes the experience more fun. I was first introduced to this a few years ago, but thought that it was about time that I bought my own version. I'm so glad that I did, as it has allowed me to while a away those quiet nights with a bit more fun. It is also good as it is only the size of a pack of cards, so it is easy to stick in your luggage if you ever go away anywhere, as you never know when you may need them for some impromtu fun.

There are many different versions of this game (pirate etc), so I think I may have to invest in some more! Worth the 5 stars.

This game is easy to learn and fun to play! The rules start simple, and build up as the game goes on. The cards are easy to read and understand at nearly every age! The deck also has a nice range of cards that ensure every round you play is different than the one that came before. A relatively inexpensive cards game that can lead to hours of family fun!

I decided on the Fairytale Fluxx because it is so cute and the style and artistry is awesome! There are no creepers, so it is an easier version of the game. I really enjoy it and it is fun to play- looking to buy different versions in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Un juego de cartas bueno para pasar el rato
Reviewed in Mexico on 8 August 2019
Style Name: Fairy Tale FluxxVerified Purchase
