  • FAMILY OR ADULT STRATEGY GAME: This abstract strategy game can be enjoyed by parents playing with their children, tweens or teens as well as adults. It plays very well with 2, 3 or 4 players as the board size is based on the number of players. The shape of the board may vary with each new game.
  • HOW TO PLAY: players start the game by constructing the board from identical four-hex tiles, then each player places their tall stack of discs on one of the border hexes. Players take turns removing some number of discs from the top of one of their stacks, moving that new stack of discs as far away as it can go in a straight line. Players must leave at least one disc behind when moving, so the board gradually fills up and movement opportunities become more and more scarce. The player occupying the most spaces at the end of the game wins!
  • GREAT GIFT: Battle Sheep makes the perfect gift to children 7 and up to introduce them to abstract thinking and strategy. It also makes the perfect gift for strategy board games lovers. Best recommended for ages 7 & Up. The game includes 16 pasture boards and 64 high quality sheep chips.

Bam Ram EWE - This game is a keeper. It plays 2-4 players ages 7 to adult. My kids (10+) were able to grasp the rules very quickly. The concept is easy to understand - You move a stack of sheep disks in a straight path on the game board. You may take as many sheep with you as you like, but you must leave at least one sheep behind. The object is to block you opponent(s) sheep stacks in so they won't be able to place as many sheep as you. The game says to count the sheep on the board, but we found it much easier to simply count the number of sheep left on your stacks after all the moves were made. This game is super-fun! My family enjoyed playing it. The great thing is that it plays very quickly! Average game time is about 10 minutes, so it leaves a lot of room for replay. Younger players may not be able to move their stacks without them falling down a lot, or may not be able to realize the strategy elements in the game. Believe me, the strategy elements are needed to win if you are playing someone a little older. The board is built for each game, so you change the game by changing the way the board is laid out. Two player action is fun, but three or four is awesome, because you have to watch your back. My kids blocked me in within 5 moves of the game, and I had 9 sheep not used! I didn't see it coming until it was too late - and I am pretty good at these type of games. I was so busy concentrating on blocking my wife in, that I didn't see my son block me from the left then my daughter blocked me in on the right. My wife sealed the deal by moving on of her sheep which cut off my only chance of escape. I couldn't do anything about it by the time it was my move - my 9 sheep were stuck! In retrospect I should have only risked 2 or 3 sheep, but never thought the kids would think so dastardly. Game on I say! We will be playing this game for years I suspect. This weekend we will be playing it with all adults, so I imagine it will be crazy cutthroat! I can't wait!

Our family has played this game countless times. A lot of fun for two to four people (my husband and I will challenge each other after the kids are in bed). The changing board is a huge factor in it's replayability. This is sociable chess for people of all ages. My husband and I have enjoyed chess for years and yet more often than not lose to our nine-year-old when we play this game (and we do not go easy on him!). Our three-year-old understands the rules enough to play which makes for a very interesting game. With two long term thinkers trying to out strategize each other, a ninja sheep sneaking around and taking all the fields, and a random sheep whose only quest is to block others on her turn, the games are never predictable! The games are quick and we will usually play at least three games every time we have a game night.
High quality components. Love the sheep chips (weighty and a delight to touch), the board pieces are grippy on the underside which means that they stay in place no matter how vicious the war that is waged on it's serene pastures.
So easy to explain, so quick to play, yet still a lot of strategy. I highly recommend this game.

This game is great. Very simple to explain and get into, not to mention VERY immersive. I was very impressed by the high quality of the meadow tiles and pieces - very sturdy stuff that can take a beating.

The objective of this game is to cover the meadow with more of your sheep than anybody else. The meadow always changes with each game, as each player will be taking turns building it with the meadow tiles. Then, each player gets 16 sheep tokens to play with, all of which do a piggyback ride on each other as shown in the box, and that player takes the entire stack and puts it on the outer edge of the field. Then, when each player does so, they move by taking any number of tokens from the stack, and leaping across until they hit the edge of the meadow or another sheep. However, said player must always remember to leave one sheep behind! Also, they must keep in mind that they can't 'eat' sheep or jump over them - once it's there, it's there to stay.

What impressed me even more is this game's surprising depth - what starts out as looking like an innocent children's game full of colourful sheep turns into a fierce battle for territory, as sheep are capable of blocking other sheep from moving any further. Get fenced in with little room to go, and it'll cost you!

A great hit with the kids at the library, and a sure success at your household. Please, buy it!

A house guest brought this game along and after we'd played it, we knew we wanted to order it. It's a simple set-up with simple rules, but it takes a lot of thought to keep your sheep from getting blocked in. We adults found it plenty challenging. You could also make it a little simpler for young children, but we have a 7 and 11-year-old who will probably beat our socks off as it is. The other appealing feature of this game is that you can finish a round in probably 20 minutes tops. Kind of like a fast game of chess!

So dismiss the image of battleships, this game is far more akin to multiplayer Othello with a twist. The game is very easy to play but like Othello there is far more strategy which can be developed as you learn to play. Great fun and works well as a four player game.

I might have to deduct half a star, because the sheep tiles are so smooth and shiny, they tend not to stack well. Perhaps some notches (similar to checkers pieces) in the next design iteration would be good, but the tiles do feel great in your hand!
