Fast exciting combat with strong developed characters
Dragon Prince Battlecharged is a team vs. team skirmish game set in a fantasy world on the continent of Xadia, a land of dragons, primal magic, and loveable characters that are involved in an epic story. Battlecharged grabs eight of your favorite characters and lets you face off against one another in combat on one of six map boards while utilizing signature character role powers and a deck of cards that further explores their methods of attack and defense. This was a surprising hit in our home, admittedly we do have fans of the show that we’ve played with, but most of us were unfamiliar with the storyline and characters before our first plays. From a first look while unboxing and then into later games adding the advanced rules and experimenting with our favorite combinations we’ve found ever increasing enjoyment and adoration for this game. The box art is a fantastic initial draw into the game and the other components keep delivering as well with card art being equally exceptional. The map boards each set up a different environment with obstacles and terrain to use to your advantage or to cleverly box in your opponents, having different board layouts makes for the chance to use new tactics or strategies each time. The miniatures of course are a huge hit with everyone playing; although small they portray the characters perfectly and are important part of the moving battle zone you play in.The combat in Battlecharged is fast paced and easy to grasp, we had zero problems initially setting this up and getting right down to playing, thanks to a great rulebook that has both written and visual picture examples of gameplay. I’m happy to say this is a game that we know the rules to and can teach without having to reference rules over and over; new players that we’ve added to our games include several younger players in their early teens and additional adult players. We’ve run all possible player counts from 2-6 and never encountered a disruption in the flow of the game, it remains fast even at higher player counts. On their own each character has a similar deck of cards for movement, attack, and cards that allow reactions in the way of defense or ability boosting cards to augment their own powers or even aiding a team mate. Some characters will focus on long range attacks while others are up close and personal melee fighters, and while they share similar types of cards each character has a unique variety of cards that apply specifically to their power type. If long range magic is you choice Callum, Viren or Claudia are for you, if you prefer more of a support role Ezran is your man, Soren and Amaya play as great defensive support, and both Rayla and Janai come in with high output melee damage. Even in these generic melee and ranged categories the individual characters are unique in how they play, so you’ll have fun playing again and again to see who you like the best. There are some team combos that can be quite powerful, especially in the two player method where you each control two characters. In that method of play you combine the two character decks and maintain a larger hand size of seven cards, and since some of the cards in the game are universal and can be used by any character you’ll have more options on your turn. If you happen to play the two characters who both use dark magic then you can actually interchange their spell cards and either can use the other’s cards. Unfortunately there are not any other characters that share the same primal magic abilities, Callum uses Sky, Janai uses Sun, and Rayla uses Moon, I hope that we see expansions to this game that give us more characters to play so that more shared combinations like that are possible.Easily said, this game has been absolute magic for us with simple action rounds of move, attack, play technique cards and the quick dash to get the most knockouts against the other team we’ve never stopped having fun. There are some advanced rules in the back of the rulebook that I would honestly suggest you start with from the beginning if your group is used to even the most basic combat mechanics. These two additions where teammates can actually block line of sight to serve as protection, and the other as you enter the zone of an opponent your movement stops and you become locked into then facing off with them are easy to understand and enhance both character roles as defenders or attackers and how you decide to position them on the maps. I hope we see more from this game in the future; it is an exciting world that is begging to be further built upon and expanded.

Our first game took over 2 hours and I needed a break to rest my old brain before we could finish. That's probably because I'm over 50yo and have a TBI. My son, 12yo, had no problem learning it and understanding the structure.
Now that we've played a few rounds (at least one on each map and each character) we can complete a game in under an hour.
Its a good game to learn strategy and improve memory.

Bought this for our daughter whole loves The Dragon Prince. It's a pretty decent strategy game with a low time commitment once you know how to play. Some intermediate reading is required to understand the cards you have in your hand, so that's probably the barrier to entry for most kids.

This is not a generic card game with Dragon Prince pictures printed on the cards.
The game play, the roles and the rules all follow logical character related actions from the franchise! I was very impressed. My brother-in-law (who's obsessed with the TV show) said this was the best engagement present he got!

It took a little time to learn how to play and how to make a strategy based on the character(s) you have. We watched some online videos that gave some great suggestions. We have enjoyed it a lot.

Purchased as a gift for my son. We watched this entire series and couldn’t get enough. The detail is great on the character pieces. I tried to keep up with the rules of this game and didn’t. My kids did follow along - lol!
