      This is great - the rules are simplified, yes, but they are all you need in order to run the included module. Plus, the rule book being shorter makes it more easily accessible...at least for me. I love RPGs and find I don't have the time to consume the complete rule book of every one I'm interested in. This is an awesome solution to that.

      The module is a good one. It has enough to be maybe 2 sessions, but is very comfortable at one session. It introduces some Player versus Player aspects that may not be for every table, but we loved it.

      All in all, this is very well done.

You get almost $40 worth of the alien base and stress dice alone. The softcover rules contains everything a player needs. The maps for the module Chariot of the Gods are top notch, thick and sturdy.       This game is fantastic and likely to be a highly regarded addition to the paper and pencil rpg genre of board games.

      HOWEVER! If you, like myself, delayed getting into the game in order to purchase this starter kit, a word of warning to you. The rulebook included in the starter kit IS NOT the same edition as the glorious hardcover rulebook that has been on shelves for the last few years. The book in the starter kit is a STREAMLINED and MUCH SMALLER rulebook that works great as a lighter, more accessible copy for the GM to track down rule minutia mid-game but it is missing around 200 pages of great content. And some very important info is missing including: how to make your character, character sheets, how to design a campaign as a GM, how to fly space craft, cryo sleep rules and even most shockingly missing is any actual stats or rules for the xenomorph creature itself. They are mentioned for sure but none of their armor ratings, hit points, special attacks are listed. There is a mention of more info being located in the Chariot of the Gods expansion book also included here but once again, there is just a quick overview of how the Xenomorph differs in play from a player or non-player character and nothing more.

      So after waiting months for my starter kit to arrive in the mail, I went back out to a local game store I knew had the original, full size rulebook and bought it as well and in just moments found all the missing info mentioned above in just moments. So in conclusion...

      I don't regret buying the starter kit as the tokens, cards, maps, Chariot of the Gods adventure and even the smaller soft cover rulebook are all great to have as additions to this fantastic RPG, but I am a huge fan of the source material universe that is the Alien franchise. If you are also a fan of this seminal sci-fi series, even if you never play this game, YOU WILL WANT THIS FULL SIZE HARDCOVER BOOK. It is crammed from front to back with all sorts of great info, art, maps, etc, and really fleshes out the politics, factions, species, design and locations of this series. As I mentioned, the smaller book is great for quickly tracking down answers for any odd rule double checks or questions that may pop up for a GM in the middle of a campaign but if you want the actual RPG rulebook and ALL the rules, tables, gameplay mechanics, etc, you will need the hardcover to be the best GM or player you can be. Stay frosty.

      I have only run a cinematic scenario thus far, but the system is simple and easy to learn, the included game elements are of high quality, and the included module is very well-crafted. My only complaint is that all of the necessary tables, etc. are scattered throughout the rulebook, requiring a lot of flipping around/searching- would have been helpful to have them reprinted in the back of the book. But that’s what incentivizes people to buy their DM screen I suppose ; )

      Aside from that minor quibble, very happy with the product overall, and looking forward to playing additional modules.

Pero si ya tienes el core todo lo que trae ayuda mucho en el juego y está FINO, los dados bonitos, el arte de las cartas, los mapas, todo está muy bien para complementar tu core set.

      Del juego en general Alien RPG es de lo mejor que hemos jugado en mucho tiempo ya puse varias aventuras y el sistema es muy divertido y la mecánica de stress pone el juego cardiaco.

      I have played a large selection of RPGs be then online, board games or core books. Alien RPG is special due to the amount of detail you get just in this starter box.

      The core book is a must if you want to take things to the next level but for getting that first game running and getting your group excited this is a superb product.

      The quality of the contents and the art work is beautiful and I'd recommend this to Alien fans and RPG fans.

      Ursprünglich hatte ich vor mir das Starterset in Deutsch zu kaufen musste aber feststellen, dass dieses nirgends mehr zum regulären Preis verfügbar war und mittlerweile völlig überzogene Sammlerpreise verlangt werden wenn mal eins Angeboten wird.

      Dann hab ich gesehen das die englische Ausgabe des Startersets noch verfügbar ist.
      Rollenspiele in Englisch stellen mir persönlich jetzt nicht unbedingt vor eine große sprachliche Hürde das ich auch bereits im Cthulhu und Achtung Cthulhu Setting oftmals auf die englischen Pendants zurückgegriffen habe.

      Was macht das Starteset nun eigentlich für den Einstieg attraktiv. Als Hauptgrund lässt sich hierfür der Preis nennen.
      Wenn ich die darin enthaltenen Komponenten einzeln gekauft hätte, wäre ich deutlich je nach nachdem wo ich gekauft hätte, teuerer gekommen.

      Würfel sind alle relaventen im Starterset mit dabei (20Stk) kauft man einzeln zwischen 15-20 € je nach Anbieter im 10Stk Pack. Somit als zwischen 30-40 € nur für die Würfel.
      Abenteuer Streitwagen der Götter mach einzeln auch nochmal 20€.

      Hier im Set aber noch zusätzlich mit dabei:
      Ein 104 Seiten starkes Regelbuch (bentötigt man eigentlich nicht wenn man das CoreBook schon hat, aber selbst dann ist das knackige Regelwerk zum schnellen Nachschlagen perfekt) sowie 84 Spielmarker, die man benutzen kann, um die Übersicht über Charaktere, Bewegungssensor-Signale und vieles mehr zu behalten. - 56 hochwertige Spielkarten für Waffen, Motivation & Ziele sowie Initiative.

      Insgesamt bekommt man somit deutlich mehr für deutlich weniger Geld.

      Verarbeitung insgesamt lässt keine Punkte zur Kritik.

      Würde mir es jederzeit wieder kaufen.

      The game in itself is awesome and if you dig it you'll surely buy the other box set or even the core rulebook. Sadly my box was crushed : it was only shipped in an enveloppe. We're talking about a sturdy box here : Free League Publishing does not do the thing cheap. But it was crushed any way (the map inside is bent and the tokens we're already half off the cardboard sheet). It was clearly mishandled and badly packaged. Amazon tried to cut corners on the packaging bnefore christmas make a dull boy here...
