Overall, this expansion is a great, though pricey, addition to Eldritch Horror. A few initial thoughts:

    1. The new characters integrate seamlessly into the game, and are a needed addition. WIth only 12 characters in the base game, there was definitely a need for some additional options. The eight characters in this expansion add some much needed variety.

    2. The new Mythos, Location, Expedition, Asset cards, etc. also add more variety. Some of the new cards utilize some new mechanics that will help keep the game fresh.

    3. The Antarctica sideboard and new Ancient Ones: overall, I think the Antarctica board is a little bit clunky; I don't think it adds all that much to the game. There are six new Prelude cards that include a specific scenario at the beginning of the game. Out of these, only one calls for the use of the Antarctica board. The only other time you use the Antarctica board is when you use the new Rise of the Elder Things Ancient One. For what it's worth, that specific scenario is a lot of fun to play through (I had been hoping for an Arkham Horror expansion based on At the Mountains of Madness for years), but otherwise it feels a little unnecessary. The new Ancient Ones both have interesting mechanics and were very enjoyable to play with.

    4. The new Focus action: there is a new action investigators can take, which allows them to collect a new Focus token. The Focus token functions similarly to the the clue tokens when rolling the dice during tests; you can spend one in order to re-roll a die. I think they are a useful, though unnecessary addition.

Overall, if you enjoy Eldritch Horror, this expansion is definitely worth picking up. It adds some great components, and includes a fun addition to the game without making it too cumbersome. If you only have the base set of Eldritch and you're deciding between this expansion and Forsaken Lore, I would suggest picking up Forsaken Lore first; it includes additional Mysteries for the base set Ancient Ones, and fleshes out the Location decks. Since Forsaken Lore adds components specifically for the base set Ancient Ones (thereby augmenting the existing components while adding a few more), I would highly recommend buying it before picking up Mountains of Madness.

This is the second expansion of Eldritch Horror and is a 'big box' expansion. It adds a bunch of new cards, new investigators, new tokens, and a new side board. If you're an Eldritch Horror fan this is worth the forty bucks as it not only brings new content but also adds more cards to the existing decks. That said, however, I'd argue that getting the first expansion 'Forsaken Lore' before getting this is a better investment as Forsaken Lore adds even more cards to the existing decks which really adds to re-playability. Mountains of Madness is still a great expansion, though, just not the first one I'd buy (but I did buy it).

A must have! The way they have done expansions for Eldritch Horror just blows Arkham Horror away! Now the game tells you when you want to use a sideboard or not (or you can choose the adventure or opponent that uses it) so you are not overwhelmed with expansions. Each expansion shows up to give your games a unique flavor. We just love the new preludes, and while it seems that they give you an added advantage, in our games at least, that is only an illusion - our win loss ratio has not changed. In fact, we beleive the extra "boost" that sometimes the prelude cards give is more of a "false hope" as the doom we are prearing to face is even worse then we orignally believed.

Amazingly well done! It is kind of sad that you only use the sideboard in certain situation but it does add some new cards and fun. It makes it more challenging but the Antarctic stuff is very well done. This is definitely one of my favorite Fantasy Flight Games products. It helps that I really love the Mythos. By the way, it really helps if you have friends that get into characters. A couple of my friends can play a mean Lola.

Some people have complained that the Cthulhu mythos isn't about globe hopping but I like the fact that FFG can try to move the mythos forward and do a good job of keeping the feel and the mystery. I also feel that they improved on all the challenges of Arkham Horror with this.

I am a huge fan of Eldritch Horror. This expansion definitely adds quite a bit to the base game, extending playability and making great adjustments to the mechanics of the game.

    Pros:
-The new Focus action is a much needed bonus, giving your character something useful to do with a spare action.
-The new GOO are excellently well done, and provide an added challenge. One extends the playtime by about 33%, and the other is HARD. They are unique in their playstyle from any other GOO.
-Unique tasks and assets are an interesting concept that works out well for the game (although it is one other deck to keep track of). The tasks themselves provide the player with a bonus objective, usually requiring a level of sacrifice, but with a substantial reward. The unique assets are similar in the way they are acquired, but I believe this feature could've been integrated into one of the original assets instead of forming its unique deck (see "feature creep" below).
-The new playable characters are unique in their abilities and playstyles, and some will make permanent additions to your game.

    My two main complaints are:
-The box is much larger and bulkier than what is required to hold the components of the game. The box is the same size as what is used for the base game, while the added content could fit in a box 1/3 of the size. True to the Fantasy Flight brand, the box organization and spacial allotment is downright awful.
-As with other expansions, and with other Fantasy Flight games, there is a major case of "Feature Creep". More unique decks are thrown in, with more unique tokens, featuring more unique mechanics. I'd rather the game flush out and fine tune the existing decks and mechanics, instead of increasing the amount of new content. More is not always better, and longer playtime with more components does not always make a game more enjoyable.

This game is so adictive even when is SO HARD, expect 9 out of 10 defeats, still every one will have fun and its as fun with 2 player as with 6. The more players the longer the game will be and its A LONG game! Do not lose the game pieces!
Antartica is the new setting for this expansion and it has its own rules, you will need a BIG table or two tables to play this, ITS HUGE! New rules, new investigators, new ancients, pure fun!!
