I bought this map exclusively in order to play a more "tight" version of the game when playing with 2 players. I felt that other maps are too wide open when playing with 2 players and therefore the game is more like parallel solitaire. With this map, there is a little more competition and interaction when playing with lower player counts, although there is still a significant amount of freedom of movement and choices.

The Germania side has some forts upon which extra resources are distributed. When your colonist are on a road/river next to one of these, you get to claim it. It adds a nice variant. The boards are high quality and add to the Concordia experience.

I love this game, but I didn't appreciate it until I'd played it a few times. Many people say find it overly mathy and low on strategic control. On my first play, that is how I felt, but something about it gripped me anyway. On my second play, I decided I was wrong on both count.

      Is it Mathy?
There is indeed some math in scoring. Each card you buy during the game has an equation for earning points which is mildly annoying to compute. However, you don't need to be doing the math during the game. You can play effectively by just glancing on what the different cards reward and if that fits your strategy. There is little reason during the game to work out the exact value of cards, and even on my second play I had figured out how to quickly assess if I wanted a card and whether or not the other players were going to want it, without doing any math.

      Is there Strategy Control?
Buying the card you want is expensive, and if you wait for card to get cheap you may get stuck with ones that don't fit your strategy. Once you own them, you are incentivized to play each of your cards once before you play any of them again. However, once you learn go manage your economy, you will be able to pick and choose the cards you want, and know when to pay the penalty for 'resetting' and not playing the cards you don't want to play. As with the issue of mathiness, even on my second play I found I had lots of control and the game was a pleasingly deep and strategic experience, full of heuristic reasoning but not brain burning computation. Play 1 was a bit rough, but play 2 was wonderful.

I tend to prefer medium-weight Euro-style strategy games. After 1 play it felt like it might be too heavy on math and too light on strategy, but after 2 plays I realized it was fantastic on both fronts.

Britannia is the best map for three people. The little variant that all boat pieces start on continental Europe and all foot colonist in London is a fun twist. I love this board and it is my favorite addition to an otherwise perfect game

It's an expansion with 1 two-sided map and some extra rules for playing the Britannia map. It's not a must have for Concordia owners but I think if you like that game you'll want to own this. It's especially useful for people who play 2-player as the Britannia map is smaller and creates more friction for small numbers of players.

If you enjoy Rondell games, this is one of the most refined of them all. I dare say that it is even better than Navegarod

Great maps. Britannia is THE go-to 2-player map (at the moment), and the Germania map adds some interesting twists to the standard game. If you love Concordia, GET this map set-especially if you like to play Concordia 2-player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gioco bellissimo
Reviewed in Italy on December 1, 2016
