Awesome Deception Game!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2016We play a lot of board games and card games (some of our current favourites are: Settlers of Catan, Coup, Dragonwood, Rat-a-Tat Cat, Ogre, Small World, Dead Men Tell No Tales, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Greedy Greedy Goblins, and Camel Cup -- a.k.a. Camel Up). This is a fun little game that is easy for young children and fun for adults. In some ways it's like Dead Men Tell No Tales and Betrayal -- you "build" the map as you go -- but it's also a mixture of Coup/The Resistance/One Night Ultimate Werewolf because you have two opposing groups with opposing goals trying to achieve their goals without the other group knowing who they are (because the other group can torpedo you pretty nicely if they figure out that you're not on their team).
The map is pretty cute with little funny things on many of the cards that make it up. The artistry is nice. The gameplay is pretty straightforward and games don't _typically_ take much over 20 minutes, which means that you can have a nice, quick, fun game without little kids getting bored. Since the map is built as you go and roles are random, the replay value is very much there and it doesn't get old, assuming no one has a "tell", but rotating players out can fix that anyway. A good, quick family game that lets adults play something akin to the more complex, hardcore games (e.g. Coup and The Resistance) with their children. It also scales well (in fact, the more the better) and is quick to teach people, so is a good "party" game for those who have someone coming over for the holidays or some such.
Our youngest just turned 7 and she probably could have played it when she was 5 without any real problems -- she certainly has none now.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2024Good value for money. Fun with larger groups as the social deduction aspect shines with the higher player count. We usually have everyone laughing and yelling accusations of "Saboteur!!' within ten minutes. Great little game plays in about 30 minutes of so.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2024Such a fun game and easy to learn! Great when playing with a large group and makes the perfect gift for that game lover in your life.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2020We are big fans of board games of all sorts in my family, but in particular all sorts of strategy games. I saw this game of a special deal for $3 which awoke my curiousity. We ended up having a lot of fun playing this over the holidays with the family we were visiting. It's easy to learn, and more so if one person has already familiarized themselves with the game, but we made a couple of insignificant mistakes the first time we played due to missing or misreading information from the instruction sheet. This game is quite fun with 4 players and even better with more. The deception aspect of the saboteur adds a lot of passion to the game, which reminded us of One Night a Werevolf. I don't know if it was just us, but we spent upwards of 30 minutes per game round, so 1 1/2 hours per game to play three rounds as per the instructions. The game is just slightly bigger than a deck of cards, so it's a great one to bring along on trips or to camp.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2024Saboteur is a classic card game that should be in most gamer's collections. The players, as dwarven miners, are furiously racing ahead to find gold. But 1 or more of the players are saboteurs, who are trying to foil their progress while remaining undiscovered. It's a lighthearted, fun game of screwage that makes a great starting/end-of-evening filler game for a longer board game session. Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2017This is a great game. It' fun with 3 or 4 players, but gets more fun the more people you have, and it expands surprisingly well for the full 9 or 10 players. What's really cool is that everyone basically pretends NOT to be the bad guy, or to be gaming up on the bad guy, and yet it's really just a thin veil over dog-eat-dog gameplay. This is not a co-op game.
There's enough strategy involved to keep everyone engaged and to make you want to play it again, and the element of bluffing makes it really fun. It's also pretty light hearted and un-stuffy. Sheriff Of Nottingham, while certainly a blast, seems somehow a little drier and slower than Saboteur.
It's not complicated, and there's high probability (a shuffled deck), so avid gamers may either loath it from the start or bore themselves pretty easily, but for people who really just want a fun game that can keep the group engaged and interacting this is perfect.
Be warned: If you end up being a Saboteur you can make enemies pretty quickly!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2017I bought this to bring camping, since it had a high player count and we would be tent camping with our family - all adults. We ended up breaking it out early during a family dinner, for a time filler.
3 hours later, "they're the SABOTEUR!!" is still ringing out. The mechanics are easy once you understand them. I taped two pieces of paper and made a "game board" -- a template to show how many cards over the path needs to go to reach the middle treasure. It made things so much better and at the end I just fold it into the box. Also, we don't let people "teach" the game. Once a card oes down its down. No changing because you think someone isn't a saboteur and they just made a bad move.
It's one of the only games my father in law didn't flip the table and walk away from. The game was loud for us - lots of accusations and pleas for help and thinking out loud - but ultimately fun in its simplicity. We still haven't gone on our camping trip so I'm glad I have time to buy and bring the expansion!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2024Worth the cost, worth the fun, worth the quality. It’s an overall great game to keep or gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Party Game
Item as describe and fast delivery :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you sure your friends are all that nice?
Great party game and easy to learn with deception and tricks that you probably won't trust your friends again.
Your aim is to get to the end card by building a path and hoping you get to the golden nugget. The saboteur tries to block the others from achieving this goal, but no-one knows who is who.
Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun game
Fun game to be played in groups once a while. However I not am getting bored with it. Its not like Solitaire or Rummy that one can play for years and years.
