Highlights of Imhotep: The Duel
Site Boards
Each player gets their own set of site boards and all of the site boards are double sided (giving players numerous ways to setup and play the game).
Tokens
There are five sets of tokens that players can collect: Four sets correspond to the site boards and one set gives players an extra benefit on a later turn. These benefits give the game layers of strategy.
The Manual
Learning how to play Imhotep: The Duel is easy with the 8 page full-color manual. The illustrated manual provides detailed instructions for game play and includes examples of potential scenarios.
Game Attributes
Player interaction is very high in Imhotep: The Duel because every choice you make affects the other player. You can try to anticipate the other player's moves by strategically placing your pieces, but there is still a little luck in what tiles are revealed.
An easy overview of how Imhotep: The Duel is played
Place One Meeple
On a turn, players can choose 1 of 3 actions. Option 1, players may take one of their meeples from their repository and place it on an unoccupied harbor space.
Unload One Boat
Option 2, players may unload one boat that is moored at the end of a row or column. This is how you acquire tiles that are then placed on your site boards.
Play One Action Token
Option 3, play one action token. Action tokens give a player an extra benefit on their turn. Players can use these tokens to take additional actions, modify the layout of the game, or pick one token directly off a boat.
End of Game Scoring
Each player adds up the points they have earned on each of their site boards. The player with the most points wins.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2024We LOVE board games and are always on the hunt for another good 2 player games for date night. This is not overly complicated, but still interesting and can be played in 30 min. There are also a few variations available within this box. It’s not as complex as 7 wonders dual, our favorite game, but shorter to set up & our kids can play this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2024My husband and I play a lot of two player games, and Imhotep Duel was enjoyable to the point we're considering getting the original. Very simple rules, not much opportunity for analysis paralysis, quick to play. A light game, but there's some strategy involved.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2020A quick and fun two player game. I prefer 7 wonders duel, but this is a solid game to have in the rotation. Only ok replay value which keeps it from a 5*
Pros: very quick set-up, quick play time, easy to learn, decent amount of strategy, not much luck involved in the outcome.
Cons: definitely competitive (could be a pro if you like angering your partner), not much variation in gameplay
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2020Finally cracked this open to play with my girlfriend. Setup doesn't take a long and the instructions are easy to pick up. During the game we only double-checked ourselves against the rulebook once or twice, and everything made sense.
Strategically it's a bit like tic-tac-toe with a continously clearing board as your pickup a variety of different scoring elements. Lots of different ways to play and fun to try and block your opponent in one way and see you've left something else open.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2022My husband and I play a game together most days. We have a decent collection of 2 player games and this has added something fun and different. This also has the ability to change the game around a bit which can add some variety to each time we play Imhotep Duel. It also requires some strategy to play.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2019If you are familiar with the original 4 player version of this game, and enjoy that, then purchasing this is a no-brainer. In comparison, the rules for this version: The duel, are deceptively simple. It can be taught fairly quickly and is very easy to understand. But, once the game has begun, the strategies and complexities of the game become evident. This tiny worker placement game is HUGE on strategy. It is not merely a rehash of the original. Rather, the creator was able to take a few key elements and develop a brand new game.
The length of the game is on the shorter side, but not so short that it goes by in a flash. And, just like it's predecessor, there are a number of variations that can be introduced should you tire of the same old game. The boards flip over to reveal "B" sides that play very differently than the "A" sides.
I'm happy to have this game as an addition to my collection and it does not take up much room!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2020*Preface: I have not played the full 2-4player version*
This game felt very shallow to me. It has a very tic-tak-toe style feel to it. I do not know if that was the intention, but there wasn’t much under the surface after that. You select your tiles, and place them in the appropriate areas, and score them based on what you have. Blocking and forcing your opponent to “offload” is the only major aspect of this game. I’m a big fan of more heavy games, so this one will not be making it to the table very often. Not a bad game, just not for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great simple 2P only game
Fantastic little 2P only game. Basically boils down to worker placement and set collection. Played it 3 times and different strategy each time and there are lots of variety in the setup. Good add to the collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking fun!
We have only played this once so far, but can already see it has a lot of replayability!
Plenty of colourful, well-made playing pieces. It comes in a good-sized box and is very portable. It doesn't require a large playing surface, so would make a good game to take on holiday.
We found we needed to think quite hard before making a move... do I make a move that improves my Empire... or do I make a move that spoils my opponent's chances?!
The multi-scoring system is very good, so you can't be sure who has won until the final scores are added up!
With double-sided home boards to increase the variety and strategy of play, we are looking forward to playing this game many, many more times!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gran juego para dos
Está en inglés, pero es las instrucciones son muy sencillas, así que diría que no es muy dependiente del idioma. Muy divertido. Es únicamente para 2 jugadores
