This month, Fantasy Flight Games’ exceptional franchise, Arkham Horror: The Card Game, has been graced with a pair of upcoming expansion packs named The Drowned City.
Arkham Horror has been a tabletop fan favourite since Fantasy Flight Games released the original card game in 2016. This cooperative card game is loved by fans for its campaign style gameplay set in the world of Arkham, and the monsters and mysteries within it.
Over the last eight years, the game has accumulated various expansion packs, including The Feast of Hemlock Vale, which allow players to navigate new stories and upgrade the game’s difficulty and play with new characters in this universe.
Arkham Horror: The Drowned City is a twin collection of expansion packs for the core set of Arkham Horror: The Card Game. As in previous expansion packs, one set is an Investigator Expansion and the other is a Campaign Expansion. These sets give players new characters to help them navigate the scenario content set in the in the city’s crumbling foundations.
Allow us to introduce you to the investigators you can play, Marion Travers, The Trawler, and Agatha Crane, The Parapsychologist. Marion is a heroic fisherwoman who lost an arm during a fight with an aquatic sea monster. Although her card only allows for one slot of equipping assets in the game (due to her injuries), her determination and will to protect Arkham’s shore comes across with her ability to play event cards back-to-back while spending only a single action.
The Investigator Expansion also contains new player cards, known as specialist cards, such as the Library Pass card. These are useful in building your Arkham deck, creating a dynamic gameplay with even more options in your pack of playing cards.
The story shadows the players as they venture into the alien city of R’lyeh and discover some dark terrors that pose a threat to the investigators and all of Arkham. This release will turn the Arkham story on its head and marks a significant turn in the Arkham Horror storyline - Arkham will never be the same again.
As you may have seen on the artwork on the box, this Arkhamm story collides with the story of Cthulhu, an octopus-like monster, who floods any areas where he walks and poses the greatest threat to Arkham. Your job as players is to minimise the damage by Cthulhu and fight each part of him, in turn, to claim back your lands.
