Much better starter set than original release
My teenagers LOVE Magic the Gathering, but it is expensive to keep up with new releases every three months. So when Richard Garfield designer was releasing this one, we got excited. We grabbed several Call of the Archons decks and learned how to play. This is a SOLID game!Yes, some decks work better for different playstyles but it is a solid 2-player game.We even did 4 and 5 player games with some suggested house-rules from Board Game Geek site. A bit long but it could work! Then this set came out and we love the game even more:+ No "same starter decks" as in every other package of Call of Archons, but two unique Age of Ascension decks. Felt like a draft even though each player got a deck and that was that.+ At least $10 less for this starter set than Call of the Archons. We were able to pick this up for $20, which we easily spent $10 per Call of the Archons decks. Thus even for $25 we get two unique decks and the extras.+ Two fold out playmats.Yes, they are paper and yes they will tear, but it is helpful to have the playmats to get everyone in the habit of having their decks and keys in the same spot for tracking purposes.+ Tokens! You get the stun, health and power tokens.+ Keys! The two sets of blue, yellow, red keys are a nice thick cardboard and should last a good long time.OVERALL:Much better value for the money than original starter set.The additional faction powers/mechanisms are a good addition too.Can still combine these with Call of the Archons decks and have a good old time.

**Don't let anyone see your unique QR Code until you scan it into your Keyforge Deck App!**

Prices online may be a bit high for a while as most places are sold out, however, places like Barnes & Noble should have decks in stock for the correct price of $9.50+. Buy online if you don't mind paying a bit more.

Keyforge is an interesting non-collectible new dueling card game from the mind of Richard Garfield (of Magic the Gathering, King of Tokyo, & Netrunner fame), each deck has a unique name and is a unique combination of 37 cards from the available card pool of about 400 including cards from 3 different factions. Each deck is a stand alone playable deck - decks are not to be altered in anyway (NOT a CCG like Magic the Gathering) and each deck plays slightly or hugely different from other decks because of that deck's included cards. Due to the Algorithm that defines each deck some might actually be too strong or even too weak, but you won't know until you play around with them, furthermore, some decks could be trash but might be great against very specific decks (there are also special game modes for just playing with bad decks too). KeyForge has you take the role of an Archon, a powerful god-like being who's goal is to open the ancient vaults on the world Crucible, but do do so you'll need precious Æmber to craft the keys, and you'll need minions to find the Æmber. Each deck also has a unique QR Code that will allow you to track and manage your deck through the free companion app, find events, and see what else is going on in Keyforge.

Is the game fun though? Yeah it's actually really fun and opening up new decks is a genuine surprise (way more exciting than opening "booster packs" from other card games). Due to the low entry price it's an easy game to try out too, especially if you always wants to play a big bustling card game but never wanted to spend a lot of $$$. I'm a seasoned Magic the Gathering payer and used to paying $9 for a single card, so $9 for a whole playable deck is awesome! Can't wait to see how this game evolves over the next few years, really hoping it'll get big and stick around. Since it's a dueling game you'll need a deck and your opponent will need one also, but that's really it, maybe some dice or coins for counters too.

      Happy Keyforging, Archons!

KeyForge is a fantastic game. For less than $10 you can jump into this game and start playing. Dr. Garfield has done it again! And if you are on the fence about starting to play, then jump in with this set!
When the original (Call of the Archons) starter came out, it was a little lackluster. For a 40 price point you got 2 random decks, 2 fixed (not tournament legal) decks, and tokens, etc. But it had issues for sure. First the two "teaching" decks were not really useful in general and raised the price point. And instead of power counters or stun tokens, these were cards! Not the best decision. But thankfully this AOA starter fixes all that!
You get 2 random decks, and tokens for everything! The only 2 negatives against this starter are the key tokens are smaller (which some people might actually like better) and the chain tracker is still not great. While it is an improvement from the original, which was just a card and this one is thick cardboard card, it still isn't my favorite. It's too easy to accidentally knock where your marker is on the track.
But still, putting that aside it's an excellent set. For about half of the price of the original starter you and a friend can join the wonderful world of Keyforge! Have fun!

TLDR: Excellent starter. Improves on the original. Worth the money.
