    Tavla board review.
    It's a decent board for the price. However it definitely doesn't win any awards. What you see in my photo are not the original checkers nor the dice. I am an avid Backgammon player and collector. I have a few sets of checkers in my collection. The ones pictured are from Greece. The dice pictured are 8mm dice from another dice vendor that I purchase from. The original dice and checkers are complete utter trash. Injected molded checkers, yuck! The original dice are too big for Tavla and they seemed to have a funky film on them, again yuck! If you are interested in buying this Tavla board. You are going to want to change out the checkers and dice. The board itself isn't bad nor good. It's OK for playing casual games. I've seen better but they are quite a bit more expensive as well. The board accepts checkers that are 36mm in diameter if you are wondering. Don't expect miracles from this board and you shouldn't be disappointed. I believe that the squares on the checkerboard side are 2 inches squared. So a travel chess set could be used as well for this board.

      This board is quite large; check the dimensions to make sure you want something this size before ordering! This would be great for a Sr center or community center, or for anyone who prefers a larger board and pieces (and has room to store it!)

      I personally find the sound of these game pieces to be too clank-y, almost like a dull sounding chime against this wood surface.
      They are quite loud.

      The board is beautiful. The workmanship is not perfect but it is pretty.

      The magnetic closure is strong yet fairly easy to open; it does have a little resistance to it.

      I was not too impressed with either dice sets; aesthetically, neither the speckled opaque grey nor the translucent blue color has nothing to do with the rest of the game.

      The pieces slide smoothly through over the board.

      I cannot begin to tell you how beautiful this backgammon board is. The inlaid wood is perfectly smooth and the box closes with all edges matched up. I personally wouldn't use this as a travel game due to the weight and the overall beauty of it. I see smaller boards made from plastic as travel games and I just can't see letting this get banged up in the car. This came packaged in a box in a box and wrapped in plastic, the presentation wasn't there, but after you unwrap it you can see that this looks like a $300 board. If I could have parted with it, it would have needed repackaging to give it the high end look it deserves. This was a great buy for such a quality board and would make a great gift for anyone who loves quality crafted items
