Written by Rob Daviau, Dig Deeper will transport players to an American town in the '70s, where players goal will be to solve the mysterious death of a local politician. The case is full of surprises and is dripping with theme. Just like the base game, it is for 1-5 players, and uses modern tools to enhance the investigation, which now includes an all new interactive interrogation mechanism!

New mechanics added to the game

Call Librarian to look up information

Without the internet, you need to get your information from the library. First Call Librarian within library’s working hours (8 am – 4 pm), and then Pick Up the Results after 3 working hours. You access the library through Antares database.

Interview

Interviewing allows you to ask questions of people you meet while working the case. During an interview you may type a keyword in the Antares database to find out what the person knows about the subject. Each person can be interviewed only once.

Fast driving

At the start of each day, you may start at any Location. When you get to another Location you may choose to GUN IT!—spend 1 Authority token to not lose an hour getting there.

"Dig Deeper" is an excellent addition to the Detective line, which still happens to be my favorite board game ever. The writing in Dig Deeper was great (wait until you see the Whittemore write-up - we were in stiches!). The story behind the case was compelling and kept us thoroughly engaged for 3 hours. The 70's style Antares database was fun, particularly the new interview mechanic. The case duration of 4 days was aggressive and when we were done we had a good number of cards remaining that we hadn't yet seen (but this is to be expected with Detective). It turns out we followed most of the right leads and nailed the final report. I could see others having issues, however, if you choose the wrong thread of thinking.

I highly recommend "Dig Deeper" as an additional case in the Detective line. Keep the great cases coming!

It is kind of cheaply made but the gameplay seems pretty good and it does work with the actual system so it's a plus. It's a little pricey for what it is.

I love deduction games and these are right up my alley. I've played most of the cases in the series (save for LA, but I'll get to that) and have enjoyed all of them to a degree. When I saw the name Rob Daviau on the box, I had to get it knowing the quality of games he has put out before such as Pandemic Legacy, a personal favorite. However, this one just didn't work for me. The case felt more ambitious than what could be condensed into 35 cards and some of the new rules were more frustrating than clever. For example, since it's a period piece when there's no internet, you have to call the library to do research, kill three hours, then go to the library to get the information, which is a lot of time if it turns out to be useless. There's also an interrogation mechanic that I never actually used since I was, again, worried it would take up too much time. The other cases worked since you always felt that you were on the cusp of something, but were really constrained to make precise choices. Here I felt like there were a hundred wrong paths for each right one, even if I was able to guess my way through the final quiz. That said, the story itself was really clever and the visual aesthetic was cool, but it just didn't work for me and the cost seems way too high for just the one case.
