June, 1944: Through the D-Day landings, the Allies have seized a foothold on the beaches of Normandy. Now you must lead your troops forward as you push deeper into France and drive the German forces back. You will face intense resistance, machine gun fire, and mortar bombardment, but a great commander can turn the situation to their advantage Undaunted: Normandy is a deck-building game that places you and your opponent in command of American or German forces, fighting through a series of missions critical to the outcome of World War II. Use your cards to seize the initiative, bolster your forces, or control your troops on the battlefield. Strong leadership can turn the tide of battle in your favor, but reckless decisions could prove catastrophic as every casualty you take removes a card from your deck. Take charge amidst the chaos of battle, hold fast in the face of opposition, and remain undaunted.

Great simple to play wargame

Great simple to play wargame
I bought this along with reinforcements to play mainly solo. Haven’t even started on the expansion yet but Normandy seems like a solid game and very easy to play solo. The rules are nice and easy to understand my first game learning the rules and setup took about an hour or a little more but I can see that being much quicker once you don’t have to refer to the book for the keywords. I can see this coming to the table often as it’s nice and easy to play and set up and especially with the rules not being super complicated like most war games.

I bloody love this game. It's a great price for the amount of replayability and hours you can get out of it. I love the art of the box and the cards, I love the overall aesthetic of it all.

The game mechanics themself are really well thought out and it doesn't take so long to play your turn that your opponent will get bored, making it also very attractive to people that will have never played it before.

Talking of new players, the rules are simple enough that it wouldn't take but 10 minutes to explain to someone how to play the game, maybe even less if you just show them along the way, and they won't feel like they're missing out on anything either since all the actions you can take are clearly listed and they can easily refer to the rule book if they want to check something. This game is also so easy to remember how to play that you won't probably won't need the rulebook yourself, but on the flip side, it's not so easy in the fact that you actually have to think about your moves and strategies to win. It's a perfect mix of complication, enough so, that it won't scare of people from giving the game a try.

There's only one downside to this whole game really, and that's luck, but most board games have an element of luck in them, it's upto you whether the luck of a dice is going to ruin the board game for you or your friends.

Anyway, it's a 5/5 from me. A keeper for many years I think.

Very enjoyable game, simply to pick up and play, will have moments off pure bliss when you get a few good rolls and wipe out your oppo, or have tears in the eyes when you lose a few German comrades. Either way a nice way to pass the time.

Squad movement a bit too artificial and squad player changes too random, However an interesting game with an unusual and enjoyable game play. Quick too, so good for a best out of three..... A beer and pretzels version of Up Front.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favorite game!
Reviewed in Canada on 3 November 2021
I love this game and it has become a new family favorite. Plays in an hour or less depending on the scenario. The recommended age is 14+, however my 9 year old loves it and has a good understanding of tactics. Even my 7 year old, while not understanding the nuances of the game, understands the basic gameplay and enjoys it.

Highly recommend if you like games such as Memoir 44

My kids are already asking for the two expansions for Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent two player strategy that plays in 30-60 minutes!
Reviewed in the United States on 23 December 2020
A super clean and deceptively strategic war-game, Undaunted: Normandy is a top-notch two player game. Pitting Germans vs Americans in a dozen different WW2 scenarios with varying goals, you can easily play through as one side, then switch and play through all 12 scenarios again with quite a different experience.

The game can be learned in about 10 minutes. You’ll setup map tiles according to the scenario book, then give each side their starting area and units. This won’t be the same for each side which is where the variety comes in. However all the units function the same on each side which makes it easy to tell the state of the board at a glance, or what everyone’s soldiers or snipers do.

Area control is usually the name of the game in most scenarios, but some have fun objectives such as the germans having to kill all the american rifleman to win, while the americans have to capture a control point at the far side of an open field.

I found the game to be tense and balanced so far in every scenario. We’ve taken turns winning across various maps and each one came down to a final turn or action before the other could or would have won. While there is dice rolling involved for attacking, all other actions simply take place without dice or interference. This is probably my only knock on the game, as being a victim of bad rolls can simply lose you the game, such as failing to kill a soldier 5 times in a row. However this is simultaneously thematic, as war is hectic. Thematically the game feels amazing and just plays really smoothly and organically. Everything makes sense and my buddy and I love the flow of deck, hand, discard and supply. He said “Playing this round was both depressing and exciting, just like war itself.”

I’ve been playing much bigger or longer games that take 2-4 hours per session, but wanted something more accessible. We are usually done Normandy in an hour including setup and teardown for one scenario. Love it!
